In the wake of the gender revolution, a shift of gender diversity has been on the rise. The classic narrative, “I am stuck in the wrong body,” rarely seems to apply. As clinicians, we are seeing more individuals identifying as other than ‘transgender’, no longer interested in full transition from one binary to another. As the cultural context of gender shifts, so does our clinical paradigm of what constitutes Gender Dysphoria.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify variations of gender diversity and list various forms of gender expression.
  • Explain diverse gender narratives and how to develop a proper diagnosis.
  • Give examples of 3 clinical treatment approaches on issues related to gender identity including issues related to dual-diagnosis.
