With insurance companies expanding to cover transgender related services, more individuals today are able to obtain hormone therapy, and, most importantly, genital surgery. These procedures cause many changes that affect how trans-people experience their sexuality. Some experience changes in their libido, increased interest in specific types of sexual practices, changes in physical sexual response and even changes in the types of people to whom they are attracted. In this introductory level session, we will explore the effects of gender transition on one’s sexuality and offers solutions on how to work with transgender individuals.

Learning Objectives:

    • Describe the gender transition process
    • Summarize and identify effects of gender transition on one’s sexuality
    • Give examples of interventions and tools in addressing sexuality with transgender population
