In this presentation, you will learn about the therapeutic benefits that coaches and companions can have with your clients whom suffer from Sex and Love addiction.  The industry of coaches and companions is unregulated, which has created harm to some of the people in need of support as these individuals lack the proper training to provide adequate and useful services. However, there is a new emergence of companies hiring credentialed workers and/or providing supervision to their coach’s/companions by a licensed worker.

You’ll learn the usefulness of such support and the timing of when to refer one of these workers will be discussed, the differences between the various types of coach’s and companions, how to screen for an ethical coach and companion, the differentiation between therapist, coach, companion, and case manager as well as the benefits of having a collaborative team approach with clients in early recovery.

Michelle Hirschman, LCSW, is a clinical professional with a deep understanding of the complexities of various types of addictions and mental health issues. Her work has ranged from clinical work at treatment centers in California, to the town of Ho in Ghana, and Hanoi, Vietnam. Michelle created the concept of “My Sober Coach,” which was designed to bridge the gap between treatment and independent living, with the focus being on continued life skills development. Michelle’s company has been helping clients in the greater Los Angeles area and abroad for 14 years.
