The following organizations are dedicated to quality education of sex therapists and sex addiction therapists. These organizations also develop treatment protocols for the sex addiction treatment and sex therapy professions.

IITAP, the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, was founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes and facilitates the training and certification program for Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSAT’s). IITAP was created to provide standards for Sex Addiction treatment. IITAP offers ongoing education and workshops for both patients and therapists which emphasize a task centered approach to treatment. Alexandra Katehakis, MFT, Founder and Clinical Director of Center for Healthy Sex, is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and Supervising Consultant for IITAP, providing case consultation and supervision for therapists who are seeking certification as a CSAT. AASECT, the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, is a not-for-profit organization based in Washington D.C. AASECT aims to enhance sexual health by providing research and education related to sexual education and sexual therapy. AASECT publishes a monthly newsletter entitled Contemporary Sexuality and governs the certification program for Certified Sex Educators (CSE’s), Certified Sex Counselors (CSC’s) and Certified Sex Therapists (CST’s). Alexandra Katehakis, MFT, Founder and Clinical Director of Center for Healthy Sex, is a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) and Certified Sex Therapy Supervisor (CST-S). SASH, the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving sexual health and helping people overcome problematic sexual behaviors. SASH was created with the intention of disseminating the most up-to-date research on problematic sexual behavior to the public and its professional members. Alexandra Katehakis, MFT, CSAT-S, CST-S, has presented at multiple SASH conferences on topics including healthy sex, neurobiology, addiction and attachment, and women and addiction.
